Acer Travelmate 524 TEV

Introduction

• P3 600Mhz
• 64MiB RAM
• DVD-ROM
• 13,1" Display
• Touchpad
• Floppy

• two pcmica slots
• only USB1.1
• too expensive
• extremly bad to disassemble
• no standard slimline cdrom

Linux-Distribution

I choosed Debian, runs fine on x86, although the configuration is not very intuitiv.

DVD

The builtin 6x DVD (24x CD) works good, but is some kind of noisy when rotating with full speed. Watching DVD's works fine.

Display

...works perfectly! Normally I am running X at 1024x768 pixels in 24 bits true color mode. When switching to an external monitor, it doesn't look very well, because it runs only with about 60 hz. But with the builtin TFT it is okay. Running both, internal and external simultaneous, works fine.

Modem

This notebook includes the internal Winmodem Lucent SoftModem Version 3.1.66 (or: Lucent Technologies Soft Modem AMR). This modem is currenlty _NOT_ supported by Linux. If you are from AS and want to help or you are programmer and know howto access the modem, here are all informations I collected about that modem:

Touchpad

The touchpad runs quiet fine in X and with gpm. It's a synaptics touchpad and if you choose the synaptics driver in gpm or X, all buttons work.

Sound

The soundcard runs quite fine. You have to load trident.o. I tested normal playback, the microphone and the mixer.
